Volunteer Profile

Anyone wishing to be part of ASOMOBI’s Volunteer Program should meet as many of the requirements below as possible:
Our objective: to facilitate the execution of a Sustainable Development strategy, which integrates the efforts, participation, and commitment of women in the community and in national and international cooperation.

Requirements for volunteering:

1. To have a spirit of solidarity and generosity; respect and actively defend the dignity of our beneficiaries and enhance the integral development of each beneficiary as a person, with empathy and patience
2. To possess maturity, emotional balance, ability to live together, adapt to teamwork, ethical values, flexibility, kindness, and discretion in confidentiality
3. To facilitate the integration, training, and participation of fellow volunteers and create bonds of union with ASOMOBI members
4. To have a desire to live in a small, rural town in Costa Rica
5. To transmit through your activities, actions, and words the values and ideals that you pursue with your volunteer work and that must coincide with the purposes and values of the Volunteer Program and with the norms and methods of ASOMOBI, respecting the organization without using it for your own gain
6. To participate and communicate in meetings and work relationships
7. To have a disposition to leave doors open to initiative and creativity, both your own and that of other people around you
8. To have a desire to learn new things and be open to cultural exchange
9. It is preferred, but not required, to have previous volunteer experience and/or experience in the areas of work listed above
10. It is preferred to have training or experience that can help you with volunteer tasks
11. If you are a foreigner, to have your residence permit updated, if applicable.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Experience and/or education in the areas of tourism, coffee, and/or the environment
2. Interest in administration, web design, graphic design
3. Desire to develop sustainable development projects, crafts, gardening work
4. Knowledge of and ability to teach computer programs
5. Ability to teach your native language
6. Knowledge and experience in construction work
7. Environmental awareness
8. Positive attitude
9. Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
10. Ability to be proactive and willing to both teach and learn

Criteria for International Volunteers:

1. Period of stay: 4 days to 2 years or more
2. If possible, to have knowledge of Spanish to facilitate communication
3. Availability to participate in any and all activities offered
4. Round-trip travel is the responsibility of the volunteer, as is the procurement of necessary visa documentation, vaccinations, etc.
5. During your stay, a mentor will accompany you. She will provide the details of collaboration and help welcome volunteers into the workplace and community.
6. Volunteers are asked to be very respectful of the local culture and to participate as much as possible in ASOMOBI’s events and activities
7. During their stay in Costa Rica, volunteers will be provided time to get to know the country; related expenses are the responsibility of the volunteer.
